What are your office hours?
My office hours are Monday through Friday 10am until 6pm, with appointments scheduled on the hour. I do offer a limited number of weekend appointments.
Why should my child, my family, or myself be in counseling?
Most people do not enter counseling unless/until an issue reaches the point that they do not know what to do next or how to handle the situation. Many worry that if they seek counseling, they “must be crazy”. This simply is not true. Engaging in counseling is a wonderful way to collaborate with a person who is not “part of the family” or a friend who would worry about being blatantly honest. I offer a safe, non-judgmental environment in which we will work together to bring you and/or your family back to a peaceful, calm equilibrium.
Does counseling work?
I believe in counseling, otherwise I would not have chosen to pursue this profession! If you are entering the counseling relationship with the notion that I will “fix” your issues/problems, then I am not the right counselor for you. If, however, you are willing to permit me to “walk” with you and assist you in working through issues and are willing to be open and honest, then I believe the healing will begin. I have witnessed it many times over. I view the counseling process as a collaborative effort between the client and myself. I believe that all persons are capable of change and have the capacity to resolve their own problems/issues. I believe in empowering the client through helping them gain increased self-awareness and self-acceptance.
How long does counseling take?
Generally, clients come once a week for a 50 minute session and then eventually work towards every other week or once a month, perhaps. We will discuss this at the first session to collaboratively determine what will work best for you. As mentioned in the prior question, much rests on how intently you wish for change in your life.
What if I don’t see progress right away?
Progress can take many forms, sometimes in big ways and other times in very small, seemingly insignificant ways. Most people tend to focus in on the big changes and overlook, or simply do not see, the small changes. During our sessions, we will work together in recognizing and appreciating all progress.
Do you accept insurance? What types of payment do you accept?
Yes, I do accept insurance, as well as cash or check payment.
Is my information kept private?
Yes. Everything we say and discuss in session is confidential. There are, however, a few exceptions to this: 1) should you pose a threat of harm to yourself or others; 2) in the case of suspected or alleged child or elder abuse; 3) should you sign a waiver releasing/requesting the release of your records.
"It may be that when we no longer know what to do, we have come to our real work; and when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey."
